NDA Leaders Rally Behind Shah, Slam Congress Over EC Row
New Delhi, November 1: Amit Shah has questioned the rally held by the INDI alliance at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi, launching a pointed attack on the Congress and Rahul Gandhi. Several NDA leaders have backed the Home Minister's stance, intensifying the political debate over the Election Commission.
Rashtriya Lok Morcha president and Rajya Sabha member Upendra Kushwaha said the Congress is under scrutiny for its recent conduct. He maintained that the matters related to the Election Commission have already been clarified. Even so, he said, the party is talking about a movement on the same issue. Kushwaha warned that this would weaken institutions and damage the country. He said the Home Minister had spoken appropriately.
According to Kushwaha, the Congress, being in opposition, is fully entitled to agitate. However, he believes the party must carefully weigh how it protests and which issue it takes up.
BJP MP Rajeev Pratap Rudy said the Congress lacks a real issue. Politics that challenge constitutional institutions, he said, will be recognised by the public as anarchy. He claimed that the current course of action is spreading chaos and working against the Congress itself. He added that the Home Minister's remarks appear to be right.
Uttar Pradesh minister Dayashankar Singh said Rahul Gandhi is trying to weaken democracy and harm India's image. He said the Congress leader makes remarks about the country abroad that create a negative impact. Singh also credited the Home Minister for the substantial decline of Naxalism and expressed confidence that the government's appeal to end drug abuse would succeed.
Uttar Pradesh minister Manoj Kumar Pandey hit back at the opposition's vote theft charges. He said the same people had remained in power for a long time through the Election Commission and are now speaking of vote theft. He said they celebrate their victories in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Karnataka and Kerala but blame the Election Commission when they lose.
Pandey said that those who claim to uphold the Constitution are now insulting it. He alleged that people questioning elected governments, the Lok Sabha Speaker, Supreme Court judges and the Army are deceiving the public, and that the public is aware of this. He described the opposition as defeated and said their protests during the Diwali festival were inappropriate. He called them anti-Sanatan and said the public would respond to them once more.
