NCW's Udaan Programme Wraps Up with Girls' Competitions at DU

New Delhi, October 22: The 'Udaan' programme came to a close on Thursday with a ceremony at the Sports Complex of Delhi University. The National Commission for Women (NCW) and the Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board (NCWEB) jointly organised the event.

NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar and NCWEB Director Prof. Geeta Bhatt addressed the gathering of students and outlined the purpose behind the programme.

Rahatkar, in an interview, said the NCW had teamed up with Delhi University and NCWEB to hold the Udaan programme, which ended today. She pointed out that about 49,000 girls across Delhi are enrolled with NCWEB. These students attend classes on Saturdays and Sundays, while the remaining days are devoted to household responsibilities or jobs. Through weekend study, they are working toward personal growth and their aspirations.

"The NCW has held the hands of all these girls," Rahatkar said. "We resolved to inform these daughters about safety and dignity, and about the legal protections available for women's safety and security. We also discussed how skilling can help them advance and build their futures."

She further stated that the NCW had connected with 49,000 students at 27 NCWEB centres. Competitions such as poster making and reel making were conducted during the programme.

Rahatkar voiced belief that the self-confidence developed among the girls would support them in pursuing their goals. She added that the present environment in the country is conducive to the progress of daughters, and that the NCW will remain committed to Delhi University and these students.

Meanwhile, Prof. Geeta Bhatt said the Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board is an essential component of Delhi University, presently serving 49,000 girls. She said the NCW had arranged workshops at 27 centres for these students, most of whom belong to disadvantaged sections, to foster self-reliance and confidence.

The closing programme held today at the Sports Complex drew nearly 5,000 girl students.

Prof. Bhatt noted that several competitions were held, and winning students were awarded Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000. In the poster making contest, entries were based on Viksit Bharat themes.

She said the girls had gained confidence after the NCW's engagement. Workshops covered 21st-century developments, new skills and career prospects suited to individual interests, and students were also guided on where they could receive training.
