NCC Cadets Train at Ekta Nagar Ahead of Oct 31 Unity Parade
A special camp in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, is bringing together 200 National Cadet Corps cadets from every NCC directorate in the country. The cadets are gathered to prepare for the National Unity Day celebrations on October 31.
The camp, known as the Special National Integration Camp, combines physical training, leadership development and cultural exchange. It is being held in advance of the yearly ceremony at the Statue of Unity, a memorial to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and his contribution to uniting India.
Organisers have built the camp around the theme 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.' The activities aim to encourage national unity and to deepen friendships among young people who have travelled from different parts of the country.
The daily schedule begins before sunrise with physical training, drill and yoga. These sessions are meant to build endurance, discipline and mental agility. For the formal parade on October 31, cadets are rehearsing drill on the banks of the Narmada river.
Apart from physical activity, cadets join workshops and lectures on leadership, ethical decision-making, public speaking and crisis management. The goal is to refine their leadership qualities and prepare them to take on civic responsibilities.
Cultural integration forms an important part of the camp. Cadets from various regions interact daily, sharing their local traditions, languages, folk stories and personal experiences. This helps them appreciate the diversity that defines India.
The camp's main purpose is to prepare for the Unity Day parade and cultural performances on October 31. The event will feature a parade, a national unity presentation and a tribute at the Statue of Unity.
National Unity Day is observed on October 31 each year to honour the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister. His role in integrating princely states after Independence earned him the nickname Iron Man of India.
The NCC cadets' participation in the celebrations is part of a wider effort to display the discipline and unity of the nation's youth. The programme in Ekta Nagar is expected to include formal and cultural displays that emphasise national unity and India's diversity.
