NC Leader Aga Ruhullah Mehdi's Nov 3 Event Sparks Political Buzz

Srinagar, October 30: Ruling National Conference leader and Srinagar MP Aga Ruhullah Mehdi has announced a public event for November 3, generating intense political buzz across Jammu and Kashmir. The invitation was released on Friday and is believed to signal a major decision on his future in the party and in the Lok Sabha.

Posters urging people to join the programme have appeared in several areas. Issued in the name of the Srinagar Lok Sabha member, the poster promotes the event as a significant political announcement that is expected to change the course of his career.

The event is scheduled at Beehisht-e-Zahra Park in Budgam, close to the Deputy Commissioner's office. Titled Announcement of Resignation, it is open to members of the public. The poster also carries the message of speaking up for those who have no voice.

The invitation does not explain the exact causes or circumstances behind the expected resignation. Nevertheless, its content clearly ties the November 3 programme to a decision to step down from his posts.

Political observers say the coming days will be crucial, as the MP's next move is being watched closely. The outcome of the event could reshape the political equations around him.

Mehdi has reportedly been dissatisfied with the National Conference since he was elected to the Lok Sabha in the 2024 general elections. According to him, the party has not fulfilled the promises it made to voters in its manifesto.

Last year, during the Budgam Assembly by-election, he stayed away from campaigning for the National Conference candidate, Aga Syed Mahmood. The seat became vacant after Omar Abdullah, the party's vice-president, resigned from it. Abdullah had won both Budgam and Ganderbal and decided to retain Ganderbal, leading to the by-election in Budgam.

In the by-election, Aga Syed Mahmood of the National Conference was defeated by Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Speculation is also rife that Mehdi may join the Congress after resigning on November 3, but neither the Congress nor Mehdi has confirmed this.
