Navratri Kanya Puja Held at Minister Meghwal’s Bikaner Residence

Bikaner – On the ninth day of the Shardiya Navratri, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal performed a traditional Kanya Puja at his home in Bikaner. The ceremony honoured nine girls, who were offered prayers, food and gifts after the minister bowed before them.

The minister told journalists that Navratri spreads a profound wave of devotion and spiritual pursuit across India. He said that citizens feel an “extraordinary zeal” for worship during the festival, which is why he returns to Bikaner annually to join the observance. “Today I took part in the Kanya Puja and received the girls’ blessings,” he reported.

Because this year the eighth (Ashtami) and ninth (Navami) days overlapped, the Navami festivities were celebrated on the same day. Meghwal highlighted that the tradition of worshipping nine girls dates back to the founding of Bikaner, where the goddess Karni was instrumental. Locals perform prayers, read scriptures, and conduct Kanya Puja throughout Navratri, a practice the minister continues to champion.

He also posted on X, quoting a Sanskrit shloka that venerates the divine feminine, and wished the nation a joyous and prosperous Navratri and Vijayadashami, underscoring the festival’s message of good triumphing over evil.

Beyond the symbolic aspects, Meghwal washed the girls’ feet, served them a meal and presented them with gifts, stressing that the ritual is not merely religious but also an acknowledgment of women’s vital role in society and a source of collective well‑being.
