National Teacher Award 2026: Selection process and awardees unveiled

The Ministry of Education’s School Education and Literacy Department announced the final list of 48 National Teacher Award 2026 recipients on Teacher’s Day, with President Droupadi Murmu conferring the honors.

The selection framework involved an online, transparent nomination period from 15 June to 20 July, followed by three hierarchical review stages – district, state and national. This rigorous approach ensured that only teachers who have exhibited outstanding dedication and measurable impact on learning outcomes were shortlisted.

Awardees represent a broad geographic spread: teachers from 27 states, seven union territories and six central government organisations. The gender breakdown stands at 26 men and 22 women, reflecting inclusive representation.

Each winner’s contribution was documented in a short film shown during the ceremony, highlighting innovations such as curriculum redesign, differentiated instruction, and community engagement that have materially improved student achievement.

In addition to the national honours, the Department disclosed state‑level recognitions. Himachal Pradesh will award 26 teachers for improving educational quality, while Uttar Pradesh will honour 81 teachers with Chief Minister’s Teacher Awards in Gorakhpur’s Yogi Raj Baba Gambhir Nath Auditorium.

The awards aim to motivate educators nationwide to pursue excellence, foster innovation, and create supportive learning environments.
