Nasha Mukt Abhiyan Yields Major Seizure, 20g Heroin Confiscated
As part of the state's Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, the Samba police unit in Jammu and Kashmir struck a significant blow to drug smuggling on July 13. Acting on a tip‑off, officers set up a surveillance post near the Raj Baroti‑Shiv Nagar link road, close to a local cremation ground, and stopped an Arteega en route to Vijaypur.
A thorough search uncovered approximately 20 grams of a heroin‑type narcotic. The occupants – a female suspect identified as Salma Sheikh and a male suspect named Mohammad Atif, both from Ward No. 17, Shankar Nagar, Udhampur – were arrested on the spot. The seized drug and the vehicle were handed over for evidence processing.
The incident was recorded under FIR 117/2026, invoking NDPS Act clauses 8, 21, 22, and 25. Police officials reiterated their commitment to eradicating drug‑related crime and ensuring the community remains free from substance abuse.
