Nair Accuses Congress on SIR, Conversions, Jamia and Kashmir

Mumbai, October 24: Vishwa Hindu Parishad national spokesperson Shriraj Nair has criticised the Congress over a range of issues, including the India Bloc's mega rally against SIR planned for November 1. He said the rally was aimed at creating anarchy in the country and urged the public to see through it.

In a conversation with journalists in Mumbai, Nair argued that the Congress has been losing elections continuously and currently holds power in only a few states. He highlighted the party's heavy defeats in the Lok Sabha polls of 2014, 2019 and 2024.

He said that the Congress has not engaged in any serious self-assessment despite these results. Nair asserted that the party remains engaged in minority appeasement and anti-national activities, which he believes are the main reasons behind its repeated defeats.

Nair cited the Kerala elections, noting that the state's Home Minister had credited SIR for the Congress victory. He said that if the revision had caused any mistake, the Kerala government should step down. He accused the party of supporting SIR when it wins and blaming it when it loses.

He described the decision to stage a protest on November 1 as a tactic to spread disorder across the country.

Turning to allegations that three Christian families in West Bengal were attacked and compelled to perform Hindu rituals, Nair said a large number of people in the state had been converted through lures such as healthcare and education. He added that mass conversions had also taken place during the period associated with Mother Teresa.

Nair termed the claim that the three families were forced to join or perform worship during Durga Puja as entirely made up. He said Hindu society has never been involved in conversions and does not convert anyone. He stated that people whose ancestors had converted were now returning to their original Hindu faith.

On the controversy around Congress MP Imran Masood's statement on Kashmir at Jamia Millia Islamia, Nair said Masood has faced criticism before for his comments. He pointed to anti-India slogans written on Jamia campus walls, including demands for the release of Sharjeel Imam, who is serving a sentence under Indian law. In his view, such acts amounted to support for anti-India forces, directly or indirectly.

Nair insisted that Kashmir is an integral part of India. He said discussions on the region should be confined to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, which must be fully merged with India.

He said anti-national slogans at Jamia were a matter of concern and concluded that the Congress had always stood with forces advocating the partition of India.
