The Myth Behind Saptashrungi’s Right Arm Falling on the Seven Peaks

According to the Shiva Purana, King Daksha’s yajna excluded Shiva and Sati, prompting Sati to self‑immolate in protest. Enraged, Shiva carried her corpse across the cosmos, while Vishnu used his Sudarshana Chakra to dismember the body to save the universe. Tradition holds that Sati’s right arm landed on the seven‑summit range known as Saptashrung, near Nasik’s Vani region. This event is commemorated at the Saptashrungi shrine, which is revered as a half Shakti Peeth because the goddess is depicted as a young girl rather than in her full fierce form.
