Murder‑Motive Plot Unveiled: Wife, Lover Dump Body in Navi Mumbai Woods

A macabre murder‑motive saga has emerged from Navi Mumbai, where authorities have detained Sunita Kushwaha, 40, and her paramour Rahul Prajapati, 30, for allegedly killing Sunita’s husband, Baliram Sunyath Kushwaha, 50. Police reports state the duo strangled the victim at his home in Yadav Nagar, then dismembered the corpse into three pieces.

Each piece was wrapped in a sack and a sheet, subsequently loaded onto Rahul’s auto‑rickshaw and driven to the remote Gawli Dev hill forest. There, the fragments were discarded at separate sites, making recovery extremely difficult.

The investigation uncovered that Sunita lived with the victim and their two children. Her affair with Rahul, a local auto driver, began when he frequently travelled through the neighbourhood. Upon learning of the liaison, Baliram confronted them, which allegedly spurred Sunita and Rahul to devise the fatal plan. They first placed the children with relatives for two days, then on the night of 9 August 2025, while Baliram rested, they executed the murder.

Afterward, Sunita leased the family home to a tenant and relocated to Rahul’s residence in Ghanasoli, claiming that Baliram had left the family. The false disappearance report was filed in April 2026, prompting the police to reopen the case. Technological evidence, including switched SIM cards and call‑detail records, led investigators to the suspects, who later confessed during interrogation.

Law enforcement is now conducting a thorough search of the Gawli Dev forest for the victim’s remains, a task complicated by the eleven‑month gap. Both accused have been remanded for seven days while the legal process continues.
