Mumbai police investigate cyber theft targeting actress Kirti Kulhari

Mumbai authorities have opened a cyber‑crime investigation after Bollywood actress Kirti Kulhari fell prey to a sophisticated online scam on July 29. The 43‑year‑old film star reported that unknown criminals accessed her smartphone and credit card, extracting Rs 2,43,852 (approximately $2,525) in a matter of minutes.

The FIR indicates that Kulhari was at the Cinepolis multiplex close to Fun Republic Mall in Andheri West when an alert popped up indicating a $2,525 Aeromexico flight purchase made with her card. She immediately dialled the bank’s toll‑free number, leading to the discovery of four unauthorized transactions. The bank promptly disabled the card.

Kulhari maintains that her PIN was never disclosed and believes the breach may involve spyware or other malicious code installed on her device. The cyber‑cell is now following the transaction trails and digital signatures to locate the perpetrators.
