Mumbai: Drones From Wankhede Show Land on Churchgate Platform
Two drones from a show at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai fell onto a platform at Churchgate railway station on the night of October 28, injuring a passenger and raising questions about safety at large public events.
The drones lost control during the performance and came down on platform number 3, near the Virar-end of the station, at around 8:10 pm.
Hemant Prakash Mahotsavkar, a 37-year-old passenger, was struck by one of the drones. Eyewitnesses said the device hit his forehead and head directly, causing injury and bleeding.
ASI Shankarlal Meena, Head Constable Gaurav Parmar and MSF staff member Akash Gaikwad reached the scene soon after the alert. The injured passenger was given primary treatment in a 108 ambulance.
According to the GRP, the passenger initially wanted to return home after treatment and gave a written statement. About 15 minutes later, he asked for further treatment. He was then taken to GT Hospital in an ambulance accompanied by GRP personnel at 9:11 pm.
Churchgate GRP has taken possession of both drones. Preliminary investigation indicates that the drones were part of the Wankhede Stadium show and reached the station after going out of control for technical reasons.
Police are now examining the cause of the malfunction and whether there was any negligence in following safety standards.
