Mumbai Airport Gold Smuggling Ring Busted: ₹5.5 Crore Loot Captured

A major crackdown by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence resulted in the seizure of gold powder worth more than ₹5.5 crore at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. The raid on 11 September uncovered 3.5 kg of illicit gold concealed by two airport staff members and two travelers.

Authorities say the arrested individuals were part of a broader overseas syndicate that uses Indian airports to move gold illegally. The confiscated material will be forwarded to the customs laboratory for verification and the suspects will be prosecuted for violations of the Customs Act and the Prevention of Smuggling of Goods Act.

This successful intervention forms part of a series of high‑profile DRI actions across the country aimed at dismantling organized smuggling networks.
