Multi-Track Lines Set to Add 410 km to Indian Rail Network

The four approved multi‑track projects will collectively extend the Indian Railways network by approximately 410 kilometres. By converting single‑line sections to quadruple tracks, the capacity for train movements will rise dramatically, cutting delays and de‑congesting busy corridors.

The initiatives cover 173 km of a new fourth line between Kharga and Bhadra (West Bengal‑Odisha), a 75 km fourth line from Bhadra to Haridaspur (Odisha), a 90 km double‑track stretch from Gummidipundi to Gudur (Andhra Pradesh‑Tamil Nadu) and a 72 km third and fourth line between Cuttack and Paradeep (Odisha). These enhancements will serve over six thousand villages, improving access to markets, education and healthcare.

The project aligns with the “PM Gati Shakti” National Master Plan, prioritising integrated planning and stakeholder consultation to create a seamless logistics ecosystem across the country.
