The catchment area of the Mullaperiyar reservoir has surged to a red‑alert water level of 190 metres, just two metres below its maximum capacity of 192.63 metres. Officials have warned that if the level rises further, the dam's shutters may be opened to release water into the Kakkattar River, potentially raising downstream water levels. Residents along the Kakkattar and Pamba rivers have been instructed to stay on high alert and avoid entering the water. While northern parts of Kerala have seen a slight dip in rainfall, the overall situation remains fragile.
