Fine of Over ₹300 Crore Ignored as MP Government Extends Mining Leases, Opposition Demands Answers

Bhopal, June 30 – Congress leader Umang Singhar accused the Madhya Pradesh administration of granting new mining lease terms while a hefty penalty of ₹305.97 crore remains unpaid.

Singhar pointed to a petition pending before the Gwalior bench of the state High Court, which has asked the government to submit a response within a week. He argued that the authorities are opting to benefit mining mafias rather than pursuing the recovery of dues.

“The Mohan Yadav ministry is exhibiting undue leniency towards mining outfits that owe the state a massive sum. Instead of seizing assets or enforcing payment, the government is simply extending their lease rights,” he asserted.

He called on the chief minister, who also heads the Mineral Resources Department, to provide a clear answer to the public and to ensure that the details of fine recovery and lease renewals are made transparent.

The remarks intensify the political rivalry between the BJP‑run state and the opposition, coming shortly after Congress launched fresh allegations concerning land transactions involving the chief minister’s family members.
