Madhya Pradesh Leaders Discuss River Widening and Drain Upgrades to Curb Rewa Floods

State leaders gathered at Rewa’s Circuit House to chart a sustainable solution for recurrent flooding. Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla highlighted that merely reactive measures are insufficient; a structural overhaul is required. Proposals on the table include widening the Behar River, enlarging every city drain, and constructing a peripheral water‑convergence system that directs runoff directly into the river before it enters the urban core. All drainage assets will be logged in revenue records and existing encroachments cleared to maintain flow capacity. The meeting also called for converting temporary streams into permanent, paved channels, a step expected to enhance flood resilience for years to come.
