New Delhi/Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav revealed on Saturday an exciting vision to convert the derelict Union Carbide plant in Bhopal into a hub of scientific excellence. Following his deliberations with Home Minister Amit Shah, Yadav outlined transforming the 87-acre expanse into a science park, national research center, memorial for the 1984 tragedy, convention facilities, and advanced security labs.
The 1984 Bhopal gas disaster remains one of the darkest chapters in industrial history, with deaths toll exceeding 25,000 in its aftermath. ‘We’ve cleared the toxic waste; now it’s time to build a future,’ Yadav stated, noting the recent completion of waste remediation efforts.
Yadav briefed Shah on collaborative central-state initiatives, including anti-LWE measures in Balaghat and cultural promotions like the Baiga Mahotsav. He also sought advice for a majestic memorial on the site and shared details of state programs honoring historical figures like Samrat Vikramaditya.
Health initiatives took center stage with the launch of a massive HPV vaccination campaign for over 800,000 adolescent girls. Additionally, the government is conducting surveys to provide relief to farmers hit by natural disasters affecting their crops.
This redevelopment not only promises economic revitalization but also symbolizes resilience, turning a site of sorrow into a beacon of progress and remembrance.
