Mosquito Breeding Sites Targeted in Noida’s High‑Rise Apartments

In response to an accelerating dengue threat, Noida’s health department has intensified its inspection drive across high‑rise apartments. The campaign targets basements, parking levels, unfinished construction pockets, rooftop water collection points, plant‑pot trays, coolers, and water tanks for any sign of mosquito larvae.

Fifteen notices have already been served to societies where stagnant water or larvae were discovered. The department’s rapid response seeks to prevent the spread of dengue, which is no longer confined to rural or densely packed neighborhoods but now threatens urban high‑rise communities as well.

Medical reports indicate a sharp rise in viral fever cases after the rains, with up to 40% of daily out‑patient visits attributed to feverish illnesses. Distinguishing dengue from other viral fevers remains a critical challenge for clinicians.

Health specialists warn that Aedes mosquitoes flourish in clean and still water, not just filthy drains. Items such as plant‑pot trays, coolers, buckets, tires, construction debris, and any small container that holds water can become breeding sites.

Residents are asked to eliminate standing water, regularly change cooler water, clean plant‑pot trays, and ensure roofs and balconies do not hold puddles. Society management must enforce routine cleaning of common areas and coordinate scheduled anti‑larval fogging to keep the mosquito population under control.
