Monthly Meetings and Women‑Postings: New Measures Complement DA Increase in Punjab

In a comprehensive welfare package, the Punjab government coupled an eight‑percent DA rise with procedural reforms aimed at employee engagement and gender‑sensitive postings. The allowance boost, affecting nearly eight lakh staff and pensioners, will start from the September payroll.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann pledged to hold mandatory monthly meetings with employee unions and representatives. These sessions are intended to resolve grievances early and foster a collaborative atmosphere within the bureaucracy.

A separate directive mandates that female government workers be posted within a 40‑kilometre radius of their homes. The policy seeks to improve safety, reduce commuting time, and support work‑life harmony for women employees.

The DA hike will be delivered in two equal instalments of four percent each, with the first impact evident from 1 October. The timing provides additional financial cushioning for families before the festive period.

Mann also highlighted that the state has successfully filled about 70,000 vacancies through transparent, merit‑based recruitment, reinforcing a commitment to corruption‑free governance.
