Meteorologists attribute the ongoing deluge in Assam to a strong cyclonic circulation persisting over the central part of the state and neighboring Nagaland. This system, interacting with an active monsoon trough that extends from the Himalayas to the eastern Bay of Bengal, is funneling moisture-laden winds into the region. Consequently, districts such as Sonitpur, Kokrajhar, and Biswanath have observed heavy rains, with recorded accumulations of up to 20 cm at Pandu. The IMD notes that lightning activity is also on the rise, increasing the danger of sudden storms. Local disaster management teams are maintaining continuous monitoring and have issued advisories urging citizens to stay clear of flood‑prone zones and avoid travelling on vulnerable roadways.
