Monsoon Activity Continues as South Bengal Braces for Light Rain and Strong Winds

The Kolkata Regional Meteorological Centre reports that the monsoon trough is still active over South Bengal, bringing light to moderate rain and gusty winds. The system, which entered the region after moving across Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, now stretches to the Bay of Bengal and is accompanied by a low‑pressure area over central India. Cyclonic circulation near Bangladesh further fuels the moisture supply. While Kolkata will see only scattered showers, districts such as Howrah, South 24‑Parganas, Jhargram, Nadia and Murshidabad are likely to experience intermittent rain with occasional thunder and wind speeds reaching 30‑40 km/h. Tuesday may bring heavier rain to Hooghly, North 24‑Parganas, Birbhum, and the Bardhaman districts, with Wednesday seeing intensified rainfall in East and West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura. Authorities have issued a yellow rain warning for all South Bengal districts from Sunday through Wednesday.
