On the occasion of Bharat Ratna Karpoori Thakur’s jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in remembering the iconic leader from Bihar. The PM’s tribute underscored Thakur’s pivotal role in championing the cause of marginalized communities through his life of humility and service.
Posting on social media platform X, Modi said, ‘Respectful pranaam to Bihar’s former CM and Bharat Ratna Jananayak Karpoori Thakur on his birth anniversary. The upliftment of society’s exploited, deprived, and weak sections was always at the center of his politics.’ He lauded Thakur’s simplicity and devotion to public welfare as qualities that deserve emulation.
In a shared speech clip, PM Modi delved deeper into Thakur’s legacy. ‘Known for his simplicity, Karpoori Thakur devoted his life to social justice and empowering the needy. His honesty is still exemplary. As a true jewel of Bharat Mata, it was our government’s honor to bestow him the Bharat Ratna,’ Modi reflected.
The Prime Minister positioned Thakur as a guiding light for the current administration. ‘Our BJP government considers Jananayak Karpoori Thakur our source of inspiration. With commitment to prioritize the underprivileged, focus on backwards, and serve the poor, we march ahead,’ he declared.
Joining the chorus, Home Minister Amit Shah hailed Thakur as a torchbearer of social justice. ‘On the jayanti of social justice pioneer Bharat Ratna Jananayak Karpoori Thakur ji, I bow to him. His reservation policies for backwards, women, and EWS set unmatched standards,’ Shah tweeted.
Bihar’s Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary added, ‘His lifelong fight for social justice, equality, and welfare will inspire generations.’
Thakur’s contributions, particularly in implementing reservations for OBCs, reshaped Bihar’s social fabric. This year’s commemorations reaffirm his relevance in contemporary India’s quest for equity, with leaders across the spectrum invoking his ideals to bridge societal divides.
