Modi Launches Arvind Mills Facility, Hires 300 Women

Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the new manufacturing plant of textile firm Arvind Mills at Mirzamurad's Khochwan area, during his visit to Varanasi, his parliamentary seat.

Spread across roughly seven acres, the plant was built at a cost of about Rs 150 crore. Speaking with women receiving training at the facility formed a key part of the programme.

The unit is expected to offer employment to people from Varanasi and nearby areas of eastern Uttar Pradesh. Local women have been given preference in recruitment, and over 300 have already joined and are learning their roles inside the unit. The company aims to employ 1,000 women in total.

Officials say the investment will support the broader apparel and textile ecosystem in the state.

Following the inaugural ceremony, the Prime Minister asked mill officials about the garments and khadi-based fabrics being made, along with the materials used to produce them.

Under the 'Apna Hunar, Apni Pehchan' initiative, he met women employees and learned about the nature of their work and the obstacles they encounter. He then viewed a display of fabrics manufactured by Arvind Mills.

Also present were Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, employees of the company and other invited guests.

This is the first major manufacturing facility the company has opened in Purvanchal. After operations stabilise, Phase 2 will be built, which is expected to bring jobs to thousands more.

The Varanasi plant will manufacture sportswear and undergarments for brands such as Jockey, US Polo and Arrow.

Arvind Mills handles everything from yarn and fabric to finished clothing and specialised textiles for industrial applications. Established in 1931, the company is based in Ahmedabad. It produces denim, cotton and linen fabrics, suiting and shirting material and sportswear, and it supplies textiles to Indian and global apparel labels.

When the Prime Minister landed at the Khochwan helipad, Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath greeted him with bouquets.
