Model Parliament Event in Puri Highlights Youth Engagement
Educational simulations of India’s legislative body recently took center stage at the Puri Town Hall, drawing selected participants from 27 PM SHRI schools across the district. Orchestrated by local authorities, the Model Parliament program was crafted to demystify parliamentary functions and reinforce the importance of civic duty among adolescents.
Puri MP Dr. Sambit Patra graced the occasion, watching as students seamlessly transitioned between roles on the Treasury and Opposition benches. The schedule featured moderated discussions on diverse topics, mirroring the dynamic exchanges characteristic of real parliamentary sessions.
Organizers stated that the program’s core mission was to equip young minds with an understanding of how democratic resilience is built through dialogue rather than division. The simulated environment allowed learners to practice negotiation, evidence-based reasoning, and respectful dissent.
Following the debates, Dr. Patra praised the students for delivering polished arguments and maintaining decorum throughout the proceedings. He particularly appreciated the constructive approach adopted by the opposition block, noting that such collaboration reflects the true spirit of parliamentary democracy.
The lawmaker used the platform to remind attendees that preserving democratic frameworks is non-negotiable for any nation aiming for sustainable growth. He firmly stated that societal order and cooperative governance must always prevail, as chaos undermines development and fractures community progress.
