Mizoram Operations Net 4 Traffickers, Seize Drugs Worth Over ₹8.5 Crore
Three anti‑narcotics drives carried out by Mizoram’s Special Task Force, supported by recruit constables, resulted in the capture of four alleged drug traffickers, including a Burmese citizen. The raids uncovered methamphetamine tablets and heroin with a combined street worth of more than ₹8.54 crore.
The first encounter involved a truck moving from Champhai towards Aizawl. Law‑enforcement officials recovered ten bundles of meth tablets, amounting to 9.796 kg, with a market valuation of around ₹7.83 crore. The driver, 32‑year‑old Vanlal Rutsaka of Champhai, was detained.
A separate operation by the Special Narcotics Police Station in Jermak exposed 241.21 g of heroin secreted inside twenty soap cartons. The haul was linked to two suspects from Assam’s Cachar district—Husain Ahmed Laskar (23) and Noor Ahmed Laskar (34)—both of whom were arrested on site.
Investigators also seized a Mahindra Bolero pickup suspected of being used for drug transport.
In the third sweep, STF personnel stopped a vehicle at Khancon Check Gate, Champhai, as it proceeded toward Aizawl. A search yielded ten cases of soap that concealed 118 g of heroin, estimated at about ₹23.60 lakhs in the illegal market. The heroin was traced to a 27‑year‑old Myanmar national, Vanlal Muan, who was taken into custody.
Each incident has been filed as a distinct case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and related statutes, highlighting the ongoing crackdown on cross‑border drug smuggling in the region.
