Mistaken Identity Leads to Premature Funeral for Punjab Youth

In Kapurthala, a case of mistaken identity caused a family to perform last rites for a missing youth. Ravi Kumar disappeared on August 5, and after a week of no information, his parents filed a missing‑person complaint.

Police later discovered a severely damaged body near a training centre on Kanjli Road. The family, shown photographs of the corpse, concluded it was their son and proceeded with burial on August 13 and a spiritual offering on August 15.

The narrative changed dramatically on September 2 when a jail official informed the family that a detainee named Ravi Kumar was incarcerated at the central jail, having been arrested a month earlier on vagrancy allegations. The next day, the family visited the jail and were astonished to find their son alive, ending a tragic episode of premature mourning.
