Minor Tremors Across Kutch Raise Alarm but Leave No Casualties

Three minor earthquakes rattled Kutch district in Gujarat on Thursday, creating a short‑lived atmosphere of fear among residents. The initial quake struck at 2:20 p.m. with a magnitude of 3.6 and was centered 32 km north‑north‑east of Khavda, 22.6 km deep.

A second tremor arrived three minutes later at 2:23 p.m., measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was positioned 32 km west‑north‑west of Dholavira at a depth of 12.9 km, followed closely by a lighter vibration at the same spot.

Local authorities reported no injuries, no damage to homes or infrastructure, and no loss of property. The Institute of Seismological Research confirmed the shallow nature of these events, which can be felt strongly despite modest magnitudes.

This episode is part of a broader sequence of low‑intensity earthquakes that have affected Gujarat throughout 2024. Notable recent events include a 3.4 magnitude quake near Anand on April 22, a 3.2 tremor in Rajkot on April 21, and a 3.1 shock in Amreli on March 29, along with multiple minor shocks in the Savarkundla‑Mitiyala corridor.

Experts emphasize that Gujarat lies near several active fault lines, making it one of the country's most earthquake‑sensitive regions. The Kutch basin, together with Saurashtra and central Gujarat, continues to be closely monitored for seismic activity.
