Minister Defends Arrest of Former TMC MLA Sanat De, Cites Past Violence

Arjun Singh expressed satisfaction over the police custody of former Trinamool Congress legislator Sanat De, saying the community welcomed the move. Singh recalled De’s controversial record, including accusations of assaulting women’s front members and disrupting a procession following the Abhaya incident in 2021.

According to Singh, De’s earlier role as an ambulance driver turned businessman, who now allegedly controls assets worth billions and operates multiple warehouses, made him a potent threat to law and order. The minister argued that the arrest sends a strong message that criminal behavior, regardless of political affiliation, will be met with decisive action. He called on law‑enforcement agencies to continue monitoring similar cases to safeguard public safety.
