Minister Chauhan Calls for Year‑Round Tree Planting Amid Greening Amavasya

Delhi, August 12 – In a landmark initiative titled Greening Amavasya, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan mobilised volunteers from 31 states to plant more than 50,000 trees alongside the Vriksh Mitra family. The program began with a ceremonial water‑pouring to the saplings and a collective singing of "Vande Mataram," after which participants engaged in large‑scale planting.

The drive extended beyond the capital, reaching schools, colleges, panchayats, and private institutions. Every individual was encouraged to plant at least one tree and to persuade five others to join the cause. The Vriksh Mitra family acted as the backbone of the effort, inspiring mass participation.

Addressing the crowd, Minister Chauhan declared Greening Amavasya a moment to express gratitude to the environment. He highlighted that Indian heritage regards humans, animals, birds, rivers, mountains, and trees as interconnected expressions of the same spirit.

He urged citizens to embed tree‑planting into life events such as birthdays, wedding anniversaries, and memorials, turning them into "tree festivals." Additionally, he appealed to municipal bodies to allocate dedicated greenery zones for planting and maintenance.

Chauhan warned that ecological decline directly harms farming, water security, soil condition, and public health. He underscored that modern farmers need not only seeds and fertilizer but also reliable water and healthy land. Promotion of Mission Life, energy conservation, and a plastic‑free lifestyle were presented as essential measures to protect the environment.
