New Mine Closure Plan Targets Renewable Energy and Local Jobs

The repurposing blueprint envisions converting idle mine lands into solar power farms and other renewable energy projects, creating a clean‑energy corridor in the region. In addition, the plan aims to establish vocational training centres that can up‑skill the local workforce for emerging sectors.

By integrating tourism and agro‑based activities, the model seeks to diversify income sources for residents and reduce dependence on mining. The state believes that even after coal extraction ends, former mining zones can remain economically productive.

The pilot is slated to run until March 2030, after which a scalable model will be documented for rollout across other closed mines in Jharkhand and across the country.
