MI-17 Helicopter Flies Flag Over Red Fort During Independence Day Celebrations

An MI‑17 helicopter made a memorable appearance at the Independence Day ceremony at Delhi’s Red Fort on August 15, 2026. After the collective singing of “Vande Mataram,” the aircraft ascended with a large national flag, creating a striking image against the evening sky. The flag bore the phrase “Vande Mataram,” reinforcing the 150‑year heritage of the song.

The flight took place as Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a crowd of dignitaries, defence officials, and over two thousand young participants. The event also featured a 21‑gun salute by the 1721 Field Battery, and the unfurling of the tricolour by the Prime Minister with assistance from Captain Sonia Singh Chauhan.
