MFA Declares Chabahar Port Safe Despite US Military Actions

The Ministry of External Affairs of India issued a statement on Friday confirming that the Chabahar port terminal, built with Indian assistance, has escaped any harm from recent United States air raids over Iran. Ranveer Jaiswal, the ministry’s spokesperson, told reporters that the government had monitored the news about the attacks but found no impact on the port’s operations.

When questioned about the possibility of the United States targeting the Chabahar facility, Jaiswal explained that an earlier exemption granted by Washington had already run its course. Following the expiration, Indian diplomats have been engaged in discussions with Iranian officials on how to move forward. He stressed that, although there have been reports of the strikes, the terminal remains intact and functional.

Earlier in the day, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth posted a photo on social media showing a tower collapsing amid the ongoing raids, but did not indicate the site of the incident. The temporary relief from U.S. sanctions that India received for the Chabahar project in October last year concluded on April 29.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi highlighted the port’s significance as a symbol of Indo‑Iran cooperation and a vital gateway to Central Asia, the Caucasus and Europe. He expressed optimism that, despite the slowdown caused by sanctions, India will continue to play a pivotal role in the port’s expansion.
