Meteorological Department Warns of Thunderstorms in Northern and Central Bihar

A yellow alert covering eighteen Bihar districts was released on Friday by the state’s weather bureau, highlighting the risk of thunderstorms, rain and wind gusts of up to 50 km/h.

Northern zones, especially the Seemanchal belt, are expected to receive measurable rainfall. In the north‑west, north‑central and south‑west corridors, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are probable. The alert lists Gopalganj, Siwan, Bhojpur, Buxar, Arwal, Aurangabad, Saran (Chhapra), Vaishali, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Shivhar, Kaimur, East Champaran, West Champaran, Rohtas and Muzaffarpur.

The weather shift coincides with the final stages of the south‑west monsoon’s retreat, causing variable moisture levels and localized rain showers across the state. Though Patna and nearby areas are projected to stay predominantly dry on Friday, brief rain cannot be discounted.

The forecast anticipates a weakening of atmospheric disturbances from Saturday onward, with the possibility of scattered rain over the Kosi basin, Seemanchal and eastern districts. By Sunday most regions should see calmer weather, apart from a few locations such as Kishanganj where light rain may linger. Temperature ranges are expected to remain stable for the next five days.

Residents are urged to stay attentive, obey official warnings, avoid unnecessary travel during the storm, and remain away from open spaces until the weather improves.
