Meghalaya CM Sangma Launches CM Connect for Citizen-Govt Dialogue

In a bid to bridge the gap between citizens and administration, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma inaugurated the 'CM Connect' public consultation forum in Shillong on Thursday. Speaking at the U Soso Tham Auditorium event, backed by the Urban Affairs Department and Shillong Municipal Board, Sangma stressed that governance must be responsive and proximate to people's needs. 'Public opinion must continuously shape government decisions,' he asserted, framing the meeting as a dedicated 'listening exercise.' Attendees included Deputy CM Sniawbhalang Dhar, top bureaucrats, urban local body members, community figures, artists, and locals, all united in dialogue on pressing civic issues. Sangma detailed how CM Connect evolved from the necessity for a formalized complaint resolution system. Linked to the 1971 helpline, it centralizes grievances, assigns them to departments, and monitors progress through dashboards, ensuring accountability. Highlighting hurdles in waste disposal, roadways, and urban development, the CM urged citizens to engage constructively. He revealed expansions like MLA Connect and District Collector Connect to deepen grassroots involvement. Dhar echoed the sentiment, noting the initiative's triumph through youth activism and inter-stakeholder synergy. The program doubled as a cultural boost with the rollout of the Chief Minister Artist Engagement Scheme, disbursing Rs 20,000 advances to artists for statewide wall art and street murals. Complementing this, a new 'Locality Grading' system by the municipal board will rank neighborhoods on hygiene, garbage control, and eco-friendly practices, incentivizing excellence with monetary prizes. As Meghalaya pioneers this interactive governance model, it promises enhanced service delivery and empowered communities.
