18 Candidates in Fray as Meerut Division Votes Today
Polling for the Meerut Division Graduate and Teacher Constituency elections is set to take place today at 13 centres in the district. The voting process, part of the 2026 electoral cycle, will run from 8 am until 4 pm on Friday, with the administration confident that arrangements are complete.
District authorities have prioritised a peaceful, impartial and orderly poll. Security has been tightened across polling centres, and officials have been instructed to maintain continuous monitoring to prevent any irregularity.
Eighteen candidates are contesting across both constituencies. Once polling closes, their political destinies will be secured in ballot boxes. Preparations on the administrative front have been finalised, giving voters a clear timeframe to exercise their right to vote.
The administration's main priority is to conclude the polling process without disorder. In the graduate constituency of Meerut, 12,754 voters are registered in the district. The teacher constituency has 13,104 registered voters. In total, 25,858 people are eligible to vote across both constituencies.
These voters will decide the future of the candidates who have entered the electoral fray. Their participation is considered vital in graduate and teacher seats, and the administration has ensured that polling stations are equipped with the required facilities so that no voter faces unnecessary inconvenience.
To manage the process, specific duties have been allotted to concerned officers and employees. Sector magistrates and zonal magistrates will regularly tour their designated areas and inspect polling stations. Any obstruction or complaint will be dealt with by the relevant officer through appropriate action.
Special vigilance is being exercised to keep security at polling booths robust. The purpose of the monitoring is to ensure that peace is maintained and the election is held fairly. Staff posted at polling stations must carry out their responsibilities in line with the prescribed rules.
Voters have been asked to arrive at their polling stations within the designated time. The contest is being watched closely, with the BJP and the Samajwadi Party considered the main rivals in the battle for these seats.
