Mayor joins MLA in pledge to keep Amritsar spotless amidst holy sites

Amritsar – In a joint statement on Sunday, AAP representative Ajay Gupta and Municipal Mayor Jatinder Singh Moti Bhatia pledged to maintain the city’s cleanliness as part of Mission Clean Punjab. The announcement followed a ceremonial homage to the heroes of Jallianwala Bagh.

Gupta highlighted that Amritsar houses sanctified locations such as Shri Harmandir Sahib and Shri Durgiana Tirath, drawing worshippers and tourists in excess of one lakh daily. The presence of such a massive footfall, he argued, makes rigorous waste management non‑negotiable.

He called upon every resident to adopt a zero‑litter mindset, insisting that success hinges on public cooperation. “No campaign can succeed without your help,” he said.

Mayor Bhatia described the initiative as both a government duty and a public‑awareness movement. He recalled earlier successful drives, noting that citizens have begun to respond positively, yet there remains a gap that must be bridged through continuous outreach across all wards.
