Mayawati accuses SP of changing colours like a chameleon after criticism on RLD alliance

Lucknow, August 22 — Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati condemned Akhilesh Yadav’s recent comments about the Rashtriya Lok Dal and former minister Jai Ant Chaudhary, calling the language used to describe them as "making them from chawanni to rupee" both arrogant and undemocratic.

She wrote that the Samajwadi Party’s political style has always been coloured by narrow‑minded caste calculations, a habit that benefits opponents such as the BJP and weakens secular forces. According to Mayawati, the SP’s historic alliance with the BSP in 1993 fell apart quickly, culminating in the 1995 conspiracy that targeted her at the Lucknow State Guest House.

Mayawati warned that the SP’s repeated shifts in alliance and rhetoric are like a chameleon changing its hue. She urged voters to stay vigilant, noting that past SP governments have allegedly ignored the interests of Dalits, OBCs and even Brahmins, favouring criminal and militant elements instead. She appealed for a united vote to keep the SP out of power in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
