Tensions simmer in Mathura after the untimely death of prominent gau rakshak Chandrashekhar alias Farsa Wale Baba triggered violent clashes. Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s Uttar Pradesh provincial chief Kanhaiya Agrawal has filed an FIR blaming ‘dharmic enemies’ and cattle traffickers for orchestrating stone-pelting that disrupted peace efforts.
Recounting the ordeal, Agrawal said he arrived at the protest site with local VHP leaders Ranveer Singh and Nitin Chaudhary. The demonstrators had agreed to disperse peacefully, but a sudden barrage of stones from suspected smugglers’ backers forced a retreat and escalated the mayhem.
Lodged at Chhata thana, the FIR invokes multiple sections including 191(2), 191(3), 190, 115(2), 131, and 125. This follows Saturday’s uproar in Kosi Kalan, where police faced stone attacks damaging official vehicles.
Police actions have been decisive: FIRs against 22 identified and 300 unknown accused for rioting, armed assaults, and shootings. With 14 in custody and manhunts underway, SSP Shlok Kumar pointed fingers at outsiders for rumor-mongering to inflame passions.
Unraveling the fatal accident, Kumar explained Baba intercepted a suspicious Nagaland-plated canter amid dense fog, fearing smuggled cows. Circling back to inspect, he was struck by an oncoming truck, leading to instant critical injuries and death on-site.
As investigations deepen, the case highlights the perils faced by cow protectors and the fine line between vigilance and volatility in Uttar Pradesh’s heartland. VHP vows to pursue accountability, urging calm amid heightened security.
