The city of Rajkot is witnessing a high-stakes cleanup operation today, as municipal authorities swing into action against illegal encroachments in Jangleshwar. Starting Monday morning, bulldozers have been targeting 1,489 unauthorized buildings on nearly 87,000 square meters of prime land near the river and TP Road.
RMC Commissioner Tushar Sumera detailed the meticulous planning behind the drive. ‘Our teams have been persuading families door-to-door for days, offering logistical support like tractors for relocation. Despite this, structures on river edges and roads must go – full enforcement is underway,’ he affirmed. Over 700 staffers, backed by robust police forces, are on the ground.
DCP Crime Jagdish Bagarwa highlighted the calm atmosphere: ‘Operations kicked off peacefully at dawn. Most affected parties cooperated by self-demolishing after our outreach.’ This proactive engagement has kept tensions low, focusing efforts on remaining holdouts.
As debris clears, the initiative signals a broader urban renewal push. Rajkot’s administration is reclaiming spaces critical for development, drainage, and public safety. Expect continued momentum, with lessons from this drive likely shaping future anti-encroachment strategies across Gujarat.
