Marxist Party Flags Hindutva Surge After State Poll Analysis

Following its central committee meeting in New Delhi, the CPI(M) has released findings from its preliminary assessment of the recent assembly elections. The party voiced deep worry over the BJP’s success in West Bengal and the wider consolidation of communal forces. The three-day deliberations concluded on 24 May 2026. The statement emphasised that Kerala’s state leadership is gathering grassroots feedback to understand the party’s performance. Detailed discussions will be held in early June at the state level in Thiruvananthapuram, attended by Polit Bureau members. Steps will be taken to rectify organisational and political shortcomings. In West Bengal, every party unit has been asked to contribute views so that the state committee can complete its review by June-end. Tamil Nadu and Assam will conduct parallel exercises. The central committee welcomed the party’s re-entry into the West Bengal assembly and the victory of a supported independent candidate in Mahe, Puducherry, while thanking supportive voters. The CPI(M) said its elected members will continue highlighting public grievances and opposing policies seen as detrimental to ordinary citizens. It called on the new Tamil Nadu government under Vijay to honour promises of protecting the Constitution, federal structure, secularism, and democratic freedoms. The committee noted that the BJP’s gains in West Bengal and its return to power in Assam represent a worrying trend for secular and democratic forces. It pledged to keep working for communal harmony and people’s rights. A wider organisational review based on state reports is scheduled for the second half of July 2026.
