Manjalpur By-Poll Shows 70% Support for Modi-led BJP, Congress Falls
The Manjalpur assembly by‑election on 3 August painted a vivid picture of Gujarat’s current political climate. BJP spokesperson Dr. Anilbhai Patel announced that the party secured approximately 68‑70% of the votes, delivering a historic win. He emphasized that the electorate’s overwhelming support reflects confidence in the development and good‑governance initiatives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Patel criticized Congress for its inability to organise effectively, citing the party’s failure to appoint polling agents at many centres and its lack of presence outside voting stations. He also highlighted that Congress’s attempts to suppress voter turnout through disruptive tactics were thwarted by an informed and motivated electorate. The BJP’s candidate, Satish Patel, benefitted from the goodwill generated by the late Yogesh Patel’s long‑standing public service, contributing to a margin exceeding 30,500 votes. Overall, the by‑poll signals a decisive shift toward the BJP’s development narrative and a continued decline in Congress’s relevance in the state.
