On a vibrant Sunday in Imphal, International Women’s Day coincided with a spirited cycling event organized by the SAI North East Regional Centre. The ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex became a beacon of health and gender empowerment, flagged off by Sports Minister Govindas Konthoujam.
In an exclusive media interaction, Konthoujam elaborated on the program’s aim to encourage healthy habits and advance the Fit India movement. He underscored that physical fitness is non-negotiable for national development, praising initiatives from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for sparking public interest in wellness.
Extending Women’s Day wishes, the minister rallied citizens to partake in fitness drives, blending celebration with a call to action. The presence of celebrated athlete Laishram Sarita Devi added star power, as she advocated for women’s rights and health. ‘Women play pivotal roles in nation-building; let’s ensure equality and fitness for all,’ she urged, emphasizing family well-being.
Dhandapani C, the regional director, highlighted robust involvement from cycling clubs, CRPF jawans, and sports lovers. This diverse turnout amplified the message of a united push towards fitness.
As wheels spun across Imphal’s tracks, the event symbolized resilience and progress. It served as a powerful reminder that small steps like cycling can lead to monumental changes in public health and societal empowerment.
