Mamata Denounces BJP-Police Plot, Seeks SC Intervention
West Bengal’s political landscape is witnessing renewed friction after Mamata Banerji issued a stern warning to pursue legal recourse at the Supreme Court. The trigger was a reported clash outside Abhishek Banerji’s South Kolkata home, which she characterized as a coordinated BJP-police operation designed to manufacture unrest.
Delivering a statement at the Diamond Harbour MP’s Kalighat residence, the TMC chief reiterated that her family’s homes share the same geographic vicinity. Abhishek Banerji supported her stance, noting that police inaction during the pre-dawn incident heightened concerns. He affirmed that judicial intervention at the national level remains an option if state authorities fail to address the grievance.
The former Chief Minister alleged that anti-social elements aligned with the ruling party initiated attacks after 2 a.m., with local police functioning merely as spectators. She specifically called out Kalighat station chief Bolai Bag, warning that his department’s inaction risked igniting public fury.
Religious sentiments were also brought into the fray, with Mamata Banerji accusing authorities of sabotaging traditional Kali Puja celebrations. She claimed that organizers of legacy clubs faced restrictions, while authorities quietly approved new worship events overnight to divert traffic. The entry to her residence was allegedly obstructed, and police convoys were strategically deployed to limit civilian access. To further control the narrative, Section 163 of the CrPC was enforced to prohibit public assembly, a move she described as an attempt to isolate her household during a major festival.
Addressing the broader political context, she criticized the BJP’s inconsistent messaging. While the party campaigns statewide on platforms like “Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy,” Mamata accused them of undermining democratic norms locally. She carefully navigated the political blame game, refusing to indict the entire ruling coalition but pointing the finger squarely at the state administration and Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari for the prevailing law-and-order breakdown.
