Why Mahashashti and Navami Coincide on Monday Oct 19 2026
The year 2026 presents a unique celestial arrangement where Mahashashti (the eighth day) and Navami (the ninth day) of Navratri fall on the same Gregorian date – Monday, 19 October. This overlap is a result of the lunar calendar producing two consecutive Saptami dates, pushing the eighth day forward.
Mahant Surendra Nath Avdhut of Kalakaji Temple explained that such a conjunction is described in Hindu scriptures as a highly favorable omen. Performing both Mahashashti and Navami rites together amplifies divine energy and is believed to bring prosperity, marital harmony, and fulfillment of wishes.
The temple will therefore conduct the combined rituals on the same day, concluding the Navratri festivities with a grand Kanika Puja and the offering of a full Yajna during the prescribed Muhurat.
