Mahavanami to be Observed as Full-Day Holiday Across Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh will observe Mahavanami on October 19 as a full‑day public holiday, confirmed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on October 16. Government offices, schools and other public institutions will remain closed, facilitating community participation in the religious observance.

On the same day, the CM sent his best wishes for the sixth day of Sharadiya Navratri and performed a special worship to Mother Jagdamba (Katyayani), sharing his sentiments on the X social media platform.

The state’s ‘Mission Shakti’ scheme will see cultural programmes organized in selected temples during Navratri’s seventh, eighth and ninth days. These events will combine the singing of traditional devotional tracks with readings of the Durga Saptashati, aiming to spread awareness about the protection, respect and empowerment of women and girls.

Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh noted that the Navratri festival blends devotion, power and cultural heritage, and can be leveraged as a catalyst for social progress, especially concerning women’s safety and self‑dependence.
