Maharashtra’s Graduate and Teacher Constituencies Await Election Dates

The Election Commission of India released the schedule for the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Council elections, focusing on three graduate constituencies – Aurangabad, Pune and Nagpur – and two teacher constituencies – Amravati and Pune. The sitting members will vacate their offices on 6 December 2026.

Key dates are: notification on 29 September, last date for filing nominations on 6 October, and completion of scrutiny by 7 October. Polling is planned for 23 October between 08:00 and 16:00, and counting will take place on 27 October.

Incumbents in the graduate seats are Bhanudasrao Satish Chavan of the NCP (Aurangabad), Arun Ganapati Lad of the NCP‑SP (Pune) and Abhijit Govindrao Wanjari of the Congress (Nagpur). The teacher seats are held by Kiran Ramrao Saranik – formally linked to Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde – from Amravati, and Congress’s Jayant Dinkar Asgaonkar from Pune.

The declaration has prompted the Mahayuti alliance to begin internal deliberations on seat allocation, as each party seeks to leverage its network among graduates, teachers, and other educated voters to maximise electoral gains.
