Maharashtra Voter List SIR: Claims and Objections Open Till Nov 13
Mumbai, October 30: The window to raise claims and objections in Maharashtra's voter list revision has been extended to November 13, 2026. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has urged citizens to review their voter details and file any applications needed before the new cutoff.
The extension has been announced by the Election Commission of India as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Fadnavis said the move gives eligible residents another opportunity to register, correct mistakes in their records, and lodge necessary objections.
In a statement posted on social media, he said citizens should verify their name and other information in the draft voter list. Anyone requiring a new enrolment, a name correction, or the filing of an objection should submit the application by November 13.
The revised timetable provides for claims and objections between August 31 and November 13, 2026. These will be processed by November 25, and the final voter list will be published on November 30, 2026.
Fadnavis said the extended period secures the franchise for every eligible person and helps keep voter records accurate, complete, and updated. He noted that a precise electoral roll strengthens democracy, while active participation by citizens boosts confidence in the electoral system.
The Election Commission has modified the SIR programme for Nagaland, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, and the National Capital Territory of Delhi. The commission has lengthened the claims and objections period to give voters and political parties more time to participate.
In Maharashtra, applications can be filed until November 13. Processing will be carried out up to November 25, and the final voter list will be released on November 30.
The commission has asked Chief Electoral Officers to widely publicise the revised schedule through all channels and to inform political parties in writing about the new timeline.
The poll body said the Special Intensive Revision is aimed at making voter lists more accurate, updated, and error-free, ensuring that all eligible citizens can exercise their right to vote.
