Maharajganj Administration Tightens Flood Watch After Nepal Disaster

Following a devastating flash flood in Nepal’s Bhotekoshi River, Maharajganj district officials have intensified flood monitoring and preparedness measures.

District Magistrate Gaurav Singh Sogwal directed the Revenue Department, police forces, SDRF and SSB to position relief teams along the Gandak River’s vulnerable stretches. The river’s water level is currently within normal limits, but the threat of overflow remains.

DM Sogwal and Police Superintendent Shakti Mohan Awasthi visited the Patlaha zone and the Valmiki Bairaj area on the Gandak’s banks. They instructed on‑site personnel to stay alert and be ready for any sudden escalation.

The duo also inspected Sohgibirwa, a village historically hit hardest by floods. They reviewed emergency shelters, rescue equipment, and engaged with residents to understand their immediate needs.

Villagers reported sleepless nights after hearing about the Nepal flood, moving valuables to higher ground and preparing for possible evacuation. The administration confirmed that rescue boats, food parcels, medicines and other essentials are stocked and ready.

Authorities appealed to the public to avoid speculation, follow official guidance, and cooperate with rescue teams if the situation worsens.
