Mahakal’s Spectacular Decoration with Bhanga, Chandan and Panchamrit Witnessed by Devotees

On the auspicious day of Shravan Shukla Ashtami, the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain hosted an elaborate bhushma aarti that attracted a large congregation of worshippers. At dawn, the priests, obeying the order of the divine warrior Veerabhadra, rang drums, blew conches, and opened Baba Mahakal’s inner sanctum.

The idol was embellished with a vivid mixture of bhanga, soothing sandalwood paste, and an array of dried fruits, creating a mesmerizing visual effect. An elaborate Panchamrit abhishek—milk, curd, ghee, honey and fruit juices—was offered, while a moon‑shaped emblem crowned the deity’s head.

The ritual began with the toll of the first bell, a Harom water offering, and a fragrant camphor aarti, after which a golden crown was placed on the deity. The ensuing sounds of drums, truncheons, and conches filled the hall, leading to the powerful ash aarti that reverberated “Jai Shri Mahakal” throughout the precinct.

Olympic shooter Manu Bhakar, present among the faithful, expressed delight with the temple’s management and asked for Mahakaleshwar’s continued blessings. Devotees adhered to the customary dress code: dhoti‑sola for men and saree for women.
